About Dong Quai…
The use of Dong Quai, also known as “Tang Kuei” (which means “proper order”), is recorded as early as 400 B.C. and is considered to be the “empress of all herbs.” It is highly valued in Chinese medicine as a lady’s best, friend helping her to retain her youthful glow. Today, it continues to be one of the most widely used herbs in oriental medicine.
Dong Quai has a pungent flavour similar to celery, and is often used to enhance oriental soups and stews. It makes a very satisfying tea.

- Good water is an essential part of brewing a great cup of tea. Using spring or filtered is recommended.

- This is a delicate herb and is more potent when exposed to high temperatures for a short period of time. So that your tea has its maximum medicinal properties and flavour, be sure that your water is at rolling boil when you pour it over your teabags.
- If you desire a medicinal tea: This herb has a tough cellular structure and some heat is required to release all of its medicinal properties and flavour. Use one tea bag per cup of hot water in a stainless steel or glass pot, cover, boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 to 20 minutes. This is known as the decoction method. Extra tea can be kept in a covered glass jar for a day or two in the refrigerator.
- If you desire a pleasure tea or quick brew, use on teabag per cup of hot water. Pour water over teabags, cover, and let steep for 5 to 7 minutes to taste. Enjoy!
